anyway, yunus is the economist who pioneered the concept of "microlending" to lift millions out of poverty. he started his own bank, and lends out an average of US$200 per person, for them to like but a few chickens or cows to get started somewhere. it's a significant amount, considering people get stuck in debt, and sometimes even debt-slavery, for amounts as low as 5-10 takas (20 cents maximum).
worldwide, this concept has helped about 17 million people get out of poverty. cheers.
